cutting boardWe know there's a lot of delicious ways to cook with coconut oil. It has a high smoke point and is amazingly versatile. But if you're just cooking with the stuff, you're missing out on everything else it can do. Coconut oil has antifungal, antibacterial, and antioxidant properties that make it useful in dozens of ways. Here's just a few reasons why you might want to take the coconut oil outside the kitchen.

  • Moisturizer

Slather it on your body, on your lips, even in your hair to tame those split ends. Coconut oil makes an excellent moisturizer, especially in combination with other essential oils. I hear it even helps minimize stretch marks.

  • Season Your Cutting Board

If you want your wood cutting board to last, you'll want to season it with oil. You can use a food-safe mineral oil, but another option is coconut oil.

  • Makeup Remover

Use coconut oil to gently remove your eye makeup -- leaving behind clean, moisturized skin.

  • Diaper Cream

You can use coconut oil in place of diaper cream. I mean, what the hell is in that stuff, anyway?!?

  • Yeasties & UTIs

Ladies, you know what I'm talking about: The dreaded yeast infections and urinary tract infections. Supposedly, adding coconut oil to your diet can help you prevent infections. Some women apply it after sex and say it helps prevent infections that way, too. And it can be used as a topical cream to soothe the itch if you do get that infection.

  • Deodorant

Combine coconut oil with baking soda, cornstarch, and essential oils to make your own homemade deodorant. As with most natural deodorants, you'll probably need to reapply throughout the day. But at least you're not rubbing aluminum into your skin.

  • Cradle Cap

Cradle cap is that dry, scaly dead skin babies sometimes get on their scalp. Gently work some coconut oil over your baby's scalp and comb it all out.

  • Eczema and Psoriasis

Many people who suffer from eczema or psoriasis say coconut oil soothes their skin and diminishes outbreaks. You should talk with your doctor, first. And be sure to use virgin coconut oil with nothing else added.
