8 Great Campfire Recipes to Make Sure Roughing It Isn't So Rough

Julie Ryan Evans Yum!

campfire When it comes to camping, some like to rough it a little bit more than others. Personally, I'm fine giving up some luxuries, as long as my meals consist of more than trail mix.

There's something about eating a hearty meal out under the stars that just makes everything more delicious. While hot dogs and s'mores are easy standard fare, there are plenty of other great dishes you can make over a campfire that won't make you miss your stove at all. Here are eight of the best campfire recipes of all time.

1. Grilled pizza rolls

You may not be able to get delivery out in the wilderness, but you can get fresh, hot pizza. Toppings of your choice are rolled up in refrigerated pizza dough, then foil. Toss in your cooler until you're ready to throw them on the fire.

2. Campfire Popcorn Satchels

All you need is popcorn kernels, oil, and aluminum foil. Seal the ingredients up in foil squares and roast over a fire until the popping stops.

3. Campfire Quesadillas

This recipe calls for mushrooms and corn, but you can include black beans, meat, or anything else you like.

4. Campfire Chili

Hearty and rich, this is perfect for cool nights. It serves a large crowd and is fantastic served on top of some roasted hot dogs.

5. Campfire Mac 'n' Cheese

When you're away from all of the comforts of home, sometimes comfort food is just what you need.

6. Potato Boat Dinner

This recipe calls for ham, cheese, and bacon, but you can layer all sorts of ingredients inside the foil packets. Then you just throw on the fire, top with some sour cream or other toppings, and a filling dinner is yours.

7. Grilled Banana Boats

Like s'mores, but instead of graham crackers, bananas make the base of these sweet chocolaty treats.

8. Campfire Cones

In this decadent dessert, ice cream cones are filled with chocolate chips, marshmallows, peanut butter, and any other tasty toppings you like. You then wrap them in foil, roast them over a fire, and ooey, gooey yumminess is yours.
