Ben & Jerry's probably purposely didn't mean to pick the most beautiful day of spring yet to give out free ice cream, but boy, did they! At least here in the Northeast, it's like the perfect June day -- ideal for heading down to your local outpost of the famous chain and snagging a freebie. Yep, that's right. Once a year, participating Ben & Jerry’s locations give away one free ice cream cone per customer. This year, Free Cone Day is today, Tuesday, April 9. That means it's time to ... ceeeeelebrate good times come on!
Okay, well, if ice cream somehow isn't your thing, you're not completely out of luck. There are a few other freebie opportunities coming up this summer ...
Though there hasn't been an official announcement about it, National Doughnut Day is typically the first Friday in June, and Krispy Kreme and other chains, like Dunkin Donuts, have traditionally given out free doughnuts*. I use the asterisk, because sometimes there's a deal involved, like last year with DD, it was buy any beverage -- including the prepackaged ones in the fridge -- and they’ll throw in a complimentary doughnut, while supplies last. But that's cool!
Also, Slurpee fans can look forward to July 11 when 7-Eleven is likely to celebrate 7-Eleven Day. In years past, the convenience store chain has given out free 7.11-ounce Slurpees that day. Sweet!
And for all you fellow coffee freaks out there -- Starbucks may be celebrating Earth Day, Monday, April 22, by giving free brewed coffee or tea to anyone who brings in their own "greener," reusable travel mug. And last year, they gave out free tall hot brewed coffees on July 4 as a part of CEO Howard Schultz's social media campaign #Indivisible. So it's quite possible history could repeat itself again this year!
Are you going to take advantage of Free Cone Day? What freebie are you most looking forward to?
