Amazing Charity Sends 21,000 Pizzas to Troops Overseas for Super Bowl

American Pride 2

deep dish pizzaThis Super Bowl Sunday, over a million Americans will sit down to enjoy a football game and they'll nosh on their favorite snacks: Buffalo chicken dip, mozzarella sticks, football cupcakes, pizza, you name it. Meanwhile, Sunday will be very different for American troops in Afghanistan and Kuwait, on the other side of the world. But they won't be forgotten!

Pizzas 4 Patroits and DHL Express are joining forces to bring the troops 21,000 deep-dish pizzas on Super Bowl Sunday. It's the day Americans eat the most pizza (ZOMG, really?), after all. 21,000 pizza pies is how many it'll take to feed every soldier in Afghanistan and Kuwait. Pizza has never sounded sweeter!

The Chicago-Style pizzas are coming from Illionois company, Great Kitchens. Illinois Governor Pat Quinn says, "While we can never do enough to honor the many sacrifices our men and women in uniform make, we should make every effort to show our appreciation."

This is the fifth year Pizzas 4 Patriots has provided troops with pizzas on Super Bowl Sunday. You can send them a donation via their website to keep the operation going. The organization also brings gifts to the troops, "any item that can bring home to the patriots." By the way, they're sending twice as many pizzas this year as they delivered last year!

So while you're enjoying whatever nom nom nosh you've on Super Bowl Sunday, you may want to give some thought to the people living and working far, far away. There's a lot our troops need -- pizza may not immediately come to mind. But imagine the comfort of that taste of home, and the knowledge that thousands of people cared enough to donate money so you could have pizza. I think that's got to be a pretty good morale boost.

Did you know Pizzas for Patriots donates pizzas to troops overseas?

My husband is in the Navy and he has told me what a morale booster it is to receive things from home. So, thank you to everyone who donated to make this possible. It is truly appreciated when they are away from family and home for so long. God Bless!
