Sbarro’s New Skinny Slice of Pizza Has So Few Calories You Could Eat It Guilt-Free

Getting Sbarro pizza at the food court in the mall is about as American as the Fourth of July or our right to horrible plastic surgery. The pervasive purveyors of pizza and pasta have been a staple in the fast food scene for decades and news flash! They've decided to try something new. Just yesterday Sbarro introduced its Skinny Slice.

Yes, now you can have your Sbarro and eat it, too. Guess how few calories it has?

The Skinny Slice comes topped with portobello mushrooms, caramelized onions, red and green bell peppers, pecorini romano cheese, and mozzarella, and only contains about 270 calories. Not bad, not bad at all. I mean, a Skinny Slice and a Skinnygirl margarita for lunch actually sound pretty good.

I like what they've done here, and I have to say, I was nervous that this was going to be some sort of asshole of a slice that comes without cheese, but I'm relieved to read that there's plenty of the dairy goodness on there. Cheeseless pizza is just a waste of time. It's like a muffin without chocolate chips -- it just makes no sense.

The secret to the slice's low-calorie count, of course, is the crust. Thin crust pizza has been a dieter's haven for years, and it's nice to see that someone's finally capitalizing on this no-brainer idea. There's nothing more on trend than healthier versions of our favorite high-calorie foods, and it's about time a pizza joint has jumped on the get-fit bandwagon.

Not that anyone's "getting fit" from eating pizza, but still, a Skinny Slice is a start.

What do you generally think about low-cal versions of your favorite foods?
