Famous Chef Attacks Diner on Facebook for Complaining About His Pumpkin Pie

pumpkin pie sliceI tend to be really opinionated and often outspoken about food, having grown up as the daughter of a self-described "super-taster," foodie, and self-made gourmet chef. My mom rarely pulls any punches when she's asked her opinion on food. The perfect example: Once, she was asked by an eager waiter how she felt about her lunch, and she bluntly replied, "It's not what I expected." Ha! I think I get such a kick out of that episode, because most people wouldn't have the guts to tell it like it is. They'd be too afraid, or they'd rather just be polite. And actually, I wonder if one patron, who recently dined at Marc Orfaly's Boston restaurant, Pigalle, and dared to express her opinion about the food, is regretting the move today, after being completely attacked by the chef on Facebook ...

After being served what she deemed "really horrible pumpkin pie" on Thanksgiving, Sandy Tremblay posted on the restaurant's Facebook page ...

She wrote that the dessert "literally tasted like vomit" and "the whole meal was awful," capping off her review by noting that she spent $200 and "will never be back." Well, ooookay, then ... Usually people who "like" a restaurant's fan page on Facebook have nothing but good things to say about it, but in this case, clearly, she wanted to make her displeasure with her meal known, and being that they've opened themselves up to patrons' comments on the social network, she had every right to do just that. But apparently, Orfaly also felt he had every right to go after her in a personal, nasty way ...

In response, he actually wrote:

Hey sandy, go f*** yourself! You must enjoy vomit you b**** if you know how much it tastes like … secondly, if you had any clue about eating out, or balls, you would of informed your server you were unhappy with something, while at the restaurant, not on Facebook ...  again f*** you, don't come back. Please come back for your two hundred dollars, sorry if you can't afford it, and I don't want your money.

Real CLAAAASSY, eh! What a total a-hole! Ugh. Although he has apologized since, I really hope Orfaly's despicable reaction serves as a major turn-off to potential patrons.

Tremblay's assessment of the pie may have been a bit harsh, but anyone who cooks anything -- whether you're a world-famous chef or just a mom hosting a holiday party -- has to be open to criticism. That's just the nature of food. It's highly subjective, and a lot of people are super-picky and really opinionated about it. And if they can't take the heat, they should get the out of the kitchen -- and restaurant biz -- altogether.

How crazy is this!?

    Yike! While I cant afford to eat there I live in the area and now know not to splurge there if I ever could. Not the way to handle it :/

    whether i could afford it or not would be irrelevant if this is how the chef chooses to present himself to the world. she may have had a harsh review, but he was wayyyyy out of line. no apology is going to fix the damage he did with that comment.

    He was out of line but I think Sandy had an agenda.Like he said ,she could have told the server,like wise if it was so God awful why did she stick around for pie?

    She complained about the dinner, not just a pie. If it was so bad, why didnt she say something? I dont agree how he went about it, but he is absolutely right

    I have eaten there and always loved it... But I have to say, I probably won't be back after that reaction.

    Always always save angry words overnight and rethink the response in the morning

    wow how funny our family recently went out to eat for thanksgiving to one of our favorite places afterward we all said that the pumpkin pie tasted weird,,,lets face it they probably get them from somewhere else..it is sad when you ruin a pumpkin pie please.......but to say what this jerk said is just plain stupid...he must of had a really bad day...

    While I don't think she was entirely right (she did have the option of telling her waiter the food was bad), the chef's reaction is way overkill, and he did himself no favors. I'll never eat at a place where the chef says that kind of thing to patrons.
