I've always been a huge fan of hot apple cider during the fall, but this year? Between the hurricanes and nor'easters and freezing temps, I'm craving the stuff more than ever. Seriously, what better way to warm up than with a mug of spicy seasonal goodness?
Not to mention how incredible your kitchen will smell as the cider simmers. (This recipe couldn't be easier, but it does take a while to brew. Maybe "mull" is the word?) Add a cinnamon stick before serving (a shot of Irish whiskey works well, too!).
1 gallon apple cider
6 cinnamon sticks
1 tablespoon whole cloves
In a large, heavy pot add cinnamon sticks, cloves, grated lemon rind, and cider.
Simmer (not boil) for several hours.
Add sliced lemons just before serving.
