Don't get me wrong, I like pumpkins. I like them in pies and muffins and bread, and I'm totally down with the pumpkin spice lattes and, in related news, pumpkin spice ice cream. But there's a serious pumpkin pie/pumpkin spice/pumpkin flavor invasion going on right now, and to be perfectly honest, it's getting a little bit out of control. It totally reminds me of that part in Forrest Gump when Bubba goes on and on about the many fine uses of shrimp: Dey's uh ... shrimp-kabobs, shrimp creole, shrimp gumbo. Pan fried, deep fried, stir-fried. There's pineapple shrimp, lemon shrimp, coconut shrimp, pepper shrimp, shrimp soup, shrimp stew, shrimp salad, shrimp and potatoes ...
Anyway, you get the picture. Problem is, pumpkin isn't quite as versatile as "the fruit of the sea," to borrow a phrase from Bubba. Seems like everything is popping up pumpkin these days, and not everything should. Here are 7 foods that should never, ever have gotten the pumpkin-flavored treatment:
