7 Crazy Pumpkin-Flavored Foods That Take the Trend Too Far

pumpkinsDon't get me wrong, I like pumpkins. I like them in pies and muffins and bread, and I'm totally down with the pumpkin spice lattes and, in related news, pumpkin spice ice cream. But there's a serious pumpkin pie/pumpkin spice/pumpkin flavor invasion going on right now, and to be perfectly honest, it's getting a little bit out of control. It totally reminds me of that part in Forrest Gump when Bubba goes on and on about the many fine uses of shrimp: Dey's uh ... shrimp-kabobs, shrimp creole, shrimp gumbo. Pan fried, deep fried, stir-fried. There's pineapple shrimp, lemon shrimp, coconut shrimp, pepper shrimp, shrimp soup, shrimp stew, shrimp salad, shrimp and potatoes ...

Anyway, you get the picture. Problem is, pumpkin isn't quite as versatile as "the fruit of the sea," to borrow a phrase from Bubba. Seems like everything is popping up pumpkin these days, and not everything should. Here are 7 foods that should never, ever have gotten the pumpkin-flavored treatment:

I love all things pumpkin, pumpkin flavored, spiced, scented, colored....... But some of these are just WRONG! I tried a pumpkin ricotta ravioli the other day and about gagged. Pumpkin is best left to the sweet side.

I had pumpkin ravioli too, and it was presented way to sweet with an apple based sauce.  I think if they'd gone more of a savory route like they do with butternut squash ravioli it would have been fine.

I am intrigued by the vodka.  Couple friends and I are going to go in on a bottle just to give it a go... if we can find it.

I generally prefer pumpkin in sweet things personally. Although I do NOT like pumpkin pie, go figure. lol I just made pumpkin cranberry granola bars this morning. Super yum! However, I have made a pumpkin black bean chili once and it was delicious. The pumpkin flavor was there but very subtle.

This is stupid and totally opinion based. I drink soy milk daily, it doesn't just go on cereal. We also make cakes and cupcakes and cheese cakes with it. Pumpkin spice is perfect for that. Pumpkin spice pasta is supposed to be savory and if you ever ventured out of your box you would find that sometimes things thy are traditionally used in sweet dishes are much better savory. I love pumpkin spice pasta with butternut squash and walnuts. Pumpkin spice is just cinnamon and nutmeg. That's it.

Everything you listed was normal, nothing odd flavored with pumpkin spice. Why they start putting pumpkin spice on pepperoni pizza, then write about that LOL. :p

I'm not sure about the Pumpkin flavored pasta, but I have made pumpkin mac-n-cheese and it was amazing.

I love pumpkin flavored everything! I need to find some of the pasta and give that a try.. but (at the risk of being blasted for it) I would like to suggest you proof your work, more specifically the titles there have been SO many typos lately and being a proofer I was struggling to get past the "flaovred" at the top of every picture!
