Oh for the love of Adam and Steve! A restaurant in an uber-gay neighborhood in Manhattan supposedly backed out of catering a gay wedding because catering the gays is "bad feng shui." Barrett Greene and Thomas Eng planned to have their rehearsal dinner at Amber Village and then have the restaurant cater their wedding reception. All seemed fine until the manager they were working with said they might have to move the event to a sister restaurant.
Okay, no problem, the couple rolled with it. But then allegedly the senior manager put the kibosh on the wedding -- and fired the manager who planned it! Not only that, he never returned Barrett and Thomas' $750 deposit. And worst of all, the senior manager supposedly said a big group of gay parties would be "bad feng shui" for the restaurant. WHAT?
Okay, I guess it's any business owner (or manager's?) right to decide who they'll serve... sort of. Except it's also kind of a civil rights violation, too. And now Barrett and Thomas are suing the restaurant.
Way to go, bigoted senior manager! Not only is the restaurant now in legal trouble, they also look like total jerks. Not to mention -- what the hell does this have to do with feng shui? Oh never mind, I'm not even going to touch that one.
If you're going to be a bigot at least refund the guys' money! But I just have to shake my head every time someone refuses to throw a gay party. It's just bad business sense! Gay marriage is not going away -- it's just getting started. There are big, elaborate, expensive parties that need to be thrown. SHAKE THOSE MONEY TREES, MAN! What is the matter with you? It's mean-spirited and it's just shooting yourself in the food. But hey, it's your right (kind of, more or less). So if you've gotta be a less-money-making jerk I guess you have to pursue your dream.
What do you think of businesses that refuse to serve gay weddings?

Well of course bigots and people who think this country was founded on christianity will support the restaurant.
But as someone who is not a complete moron, I of course hope they give that restaurant hell.
People are entitled to their own opinions. Why would you want to go to a place you're not accepted? And depending on the contract, they may not have to return that $750 deposit.
It is completely in the restaurant's right to choose who it wants to do business with... it is quite simple, if you don't like them- take your business elsewhere! Now the business gets lots of free publicity- and since it is still rather popular for the 'people' to be against gay marriage- it won't hurt them any.
Next time, let them offend as many people as they want- eventually it'll catch up with them.
Curious1145, you must have misread what I stated. I said, "And depending on the contract they may not have to return that $750 deposit". Which means, depending on the conditions and fine print written in the contract the business might be able to keep the deposit. We don't know what is stated in the contract.
For example, they might have bad feng shui listed as a reason why they won't return the deposit. Before I hire a contractor, I'll read the contract throughly and investigate whether or not I want them working in my home.
They certainly have a right to exclude them, but I think it's stupid, bigoted, and bad for business. One, now they've brought bad publicity upon themselves. Sure, it might attract other bigots, but considering the amount of people who support and accept gays, I'm guessing they're going to be losing a lot of potential customers. Two, the gay community itself--it's huge, and they're cutting out an entire possibly lucrative demographic because they're stuck in the Middle Ages. Three, it's discrimination, and they should be ashamed. If they were to refuse service to an African-American or Muslim client, they would be reported and arrested.
As a business owner, you absolutely have the right to refuse service AS LONG AS your refusal isn't discrimination. For instance, a business may refuse service to a customer because the owner doesn't like the customer's pants. He may not, however, refuse service on the basis of race, color, religion, or national origin. Later addendums to this policy included discriminating with regards to disability, and, in California, even political party (you can't refuse service to Republicans). Deciding not to uphold the contract solely because the couple is gay, which the owner freely admits is his reason, is discrimination pure and simple. Regardless of your personal feelings, that's illegal. Even if it isn't illegal in that particular state, it's horrible business sense. The business loses that couple and likely hundreds more as the information spreads. I, for one, wouldn't patronize such a bigoted establishment.
It doesn't matter why the company doesn't want to cater the wedding. They're a private business in a free country. Anyone who stands up for the rights of others should stand up for the owners' right to have and act upon their own opinion.
But of course, the hyppocrites on the left only think that idea - being able to make decisions for yourself - only applies to them, and those who agree with them.
