Disney’s Magic Kingdom Will Soon Get More Magical for Moms Who Need a Drink

Magic KingdomIf you've ever visited Disney with kids, you know it's an amazing, magical time ... and also an overstimulating, exhausting, sugar-fueled one that leaves parents feeling like they need a nice stiff drink. Only when you head to the Magic Kingdom in Orlando, there's no magic to be had for those thirsty mommies and daddies ... until now.

At long, long last (says she who lives in the Orlando area), the park has lifted the ban, and they're now going to be serving up the booze in a new restaurant at the park. I don't think I've ever loved Mickey more.

Okay, so it's not going to flowing anywhere and everywhere. According to the Orlando Sentinel, beer and wine only will be sold at the new Be Our Guest Restaurant set to open in November, which is part of an expansion of Fantasyland. And it will only be served during dinner hours -- but it's a start!

Oh I know that Disney is all about the kids, and Mickey doesn't need any drunken moms causing all sorts of chaos, but it's about damn time. All of the other Disney parks serve adult beverages (like the glorious margaritas at La Hacienda de San Angel in Epcot!), and there don't seem to be any problems. If any adult is responsible enough to be looking out for kid in what can be the chaos of a theme park then they should be responsible enough to drink with care.

Most people are there on vacation, and I see nothing wrong with letting parents kick back and enjoy themselves. It makes all those shows much more entertaining, trust me. Should adults be able to brave a day at the park with their kids without alcohol? Absolutely, but why not make it a little more fun for everyone?

So cheers to Disney. The next time my kids want to go to Magic Kingdom, I just may not do everything in my power to convince them to go to one of the other parks instead.

Do you think it's a good move for Magic Kingdom to start serving alcohol?
