Besides being an adorable actress, living legend, and pinot grigio connoisseur and purveyor, Drew Barrymore seems to be pretty much the coolest kind of foodie there is. As in, the opposite of those elitist snobby-type foodies who turn their noses up at anything that's not haute cuisine or condescending vegan foodies who live on organic kale soup (cough like Gwyneth Paltrow), but someone who quite simply, genuinely enjoys food. And I swear, it's not just because Drew's eating for two these days!
The Hollywood A-lister, who chatted with Food & Wine for their September issue, confessed that she's just like us ... She's a "carb queen!"
Drew admitted:
I'll always order macaroni and cheese, but I don't want it to be fancy. I want it to be as close to Kraft as it can possibly get! I love inventive food, but I want the classic dishes to taste like how I remember them. I get a little bummed out when there is too much fancy stuff going on and it doesn't resemble the original dish at all.
Hallelujah! Can we get a round of applause for Ms. Barrymore? I adore this! Sure, we often get phony "OMG I looove to eat my face off!" diatribes from desperately slim actresses, but the thing is -- I actually believe Drew. And her confession is such a refreshing antidote to some of the annoying crap we hear from other celebs who seem to subsist strictly on food that's both gourmet and macrobiotic, no-carb, Kabbalah-approved, whatever! Give me a break.
More proof she's a woman after my own heart: She's currently trying to perfect her Mexican cooking! When F&W asked what the worst food she's ever eaten was, she cited her own recent attempt at chilaquiles! Ha!
Somebody, please teach me how to make better chilaquiles! The dish was simultaneously dry and soggy -- I somehow accomplished both textures and nothing else. I tried adding Cholula hot sauce, Topatio hot sauce, but nothing was helping that sucker!
Too funny. We should all enjoy life and food as much as this mama-to-be!
Can you relate to Drew's take on gourmet food?

Blech, Kraft? I'll take some homemade old fashioned mac 'n cheese (baked!) anyday over Kraft. Sorry, Drew. I disagree with you on that point.
