Amazing Chocolate Diet Cola Cake With Just 2 Ingredients

by Adriana Velez on July 27, 2012 at 9:57 AM

diet cola cakeThere is no end to the different kinds of chocolate cakes you can make, but this one has to be the craziest: Chocolate cake made with diet soda. All you do is pour diet cola into boxed cake mix and ta-da! CAKE. I guess all that carbonation makes the cake rise?

It just sounds too easy not to try at least once! For the sake of science, of course. And while the point of this cake is that it's lower in sugar and calories (legend has it this recipe originated with Weight Watchers), I'm sure if you used regular cola it would still work the same, just be super sweet. Check out this crazy-easy recipe.

Diet Cola Chocolate Cake

Ingredients

  • 1 box cake mix
  • 1 (12-ounce) can diet cola
  • Chocolate frosting or whipped cream

Directions

Mix diet soda with cake mix and bake according to directions. Frost with your favorite chocolate frosting or whipped cream.

I'm sorry but that's not "just two ingredients". You do you realize there are *several* ingredients in both the boxed cake and soda, don't you?

This substitution works great. We use this recipe (and will substitute Diet 7Up for light colored cakes) since my son is allergic to eggs.

So you use the soda with no eggs or butter?

Yes. You just put the cake mix in a bowl and add the can of soda (and nothing else) mix it up and then bake according to the directions on the cake mix. Its really simple and delicious. :)

It's important to work soda into every aspect of your diet possible. Especially diet soda. In chocolate cake. (srsly, wtf, just make the cake by the directions! Or better yet, from scratch so you have a clue what's in it! eeeeeeesh)

I like using a lemon/lime selzter water with a white or yellow cake mix to make a nice light summer cake.  I just use 12oz of fizzy water for most my cakes/cupcakes I make like this and rarely use actual diet soda.  Cherry seltzer is a good fit for chocolate cakes.

Zizzler- using the soda actually has LESS calories, and then kids who have egg allergies can eat some cake too.

it is really dangerous to heat up aspartame in diet soda for recipes like these. using regular soda may raise the calories but will be much safer.

This is awesome. My friend made me one that was a box of the "Cherry Chip" cake mix & a can of diet cherry 7 up. then she uses the fat-free or low fat cool whip on top. Can you say YUM?
