$1,000 for an Ice Cream Sundae Is a Bargain When You Consider the Ingredients (VIDEO)

Serendipity $1,000 sundaeNew York City is known for lots of things. You know, like as the home of the Empire State Building and Lady Liberty, its fantastic pizza, and if you're a lame John Cusack fan like me -- Serendipity 3. You've heard of it for sure, haven't you? It's an oh-so-adorable eatery on the Upper East Side of Manhattan where all things sweet and delicious reside. So naturally, when the crown prince of Dubai visited NYC over the weekend, he just had to go indulge. When you're a crown prince, though, you don't just order a scoop of chocolate with hot fudge and a cherry on top. You order the most expensive thing on the menu: Serendipity's $1,000 Golden Opulence Sundae.

Yup, it exists. It comes in a $300 Baccarat goblet. What's in this $1,000 sundae that the crown prince couldn't stop raving about? See for yourself, here:

The ingredients:

  • Five scoops of vanilla ice cream including vanilla beans from Tahiti
  • Chocolate syrup made of melted Amedei Porcelana, the world's most expensive chocolates
  • Gold covered almonds
  • Candied fruits
  • Chocolate truffles
  • Marzipan cherries
  • 23-carat gold leaf and smaller gold flakes
  • Sugar paste floral decorations

... Wow. I mean, all those ingredients, they're pretty expensive. If eating a snazzy ice cream sundae like this floats your boat, then who am I to stop you? It gets even better, though. When diners like the crown prince of Dubai are done with their sundae, the restaurant hands them the $300 Baccarat goblet in a red velvet-lined box to take home as a souvenir. Holy. Crap.

Personally, I just can't imagine eating something that costs $1,000 -- even if you do get to go home with the bowl. One-thousand buckaroos is a whole lot of cheddah. You know what else I could do with $1,000? Buy groceries for a whole year. Maybe two, if I just stick to ramen noodles.

Check out how the sundae gets made, here:

Yum, but not for $1000!! Btw, is it good to eat that much gold? I know it's gold leaf but it still seems like a lot to consume...

Wow that does look good but I know silly me would have tried to unwrap the foil covered nuts not knowing it was real gold and to eat the whole thing.

Well, I can't judge the guy. I stayed at the Burj Al Arab in Dubai, ate a meal that cost me almost the equivalent of $400, and didn't even get to keep a souvenir lol.

@ Bonnie...if it's the edible gold stuff, then it contains very little actual gold, otherwise yeah that much gold would be toxic. TBH, didn't really taste anything special in edible gold lol.
