Caught! We Love Eating Junk Food After Dark

massive health midnightWe loves us some junk food late at night, and now there's proof. An app called Massive Health tracked the eating habits of people all over the world to create maps showing what kinds of foods we eat at different times of day: Green dots for healthy food, orange and red for junk food. Guess what? The world is flooded in green dots first thing in the morning, and then later in the day and night, it gets orangier and junkier.

So ... at least we're staring out with a nutritious breakfast? But wow, things sure go downhill from there. By 1:00 a.m. it looks like we're all noshing on French fries and ice cream -- duh, because that's what you eat after a wild night out, right? Salad is not hangover food. Take a look.

Here we are, bright and early first thing in the morning (6:00 a.m. PT). Look how healthy we're eating! All that green.

But dinnertime sure looks different. This is 5:00 p.m. PT, 8:00 p.m. ET. But do you see that green splotch in the middle? Is that Colorado? Everywhere else it looks like our collective healthy eating resolve is slipping a little.

Aaaaaand here's midnight, PT. Hey there, late night snackers! We know what you're up to. Especially in the southeast and ... what is that red patch in the west, New Mexico or Arizona?

Okay, so now we know. Of course, there are way fewer dots at midnight overall. That means most of us are asleep in bed, healthy green dots in our bellies. But yikes. NO ONE is thinking "healthy" when they snack late at night. I know I'm not. This kind of makes me want to stick with some hot milk next time I get the midnight munchies.

Do you ever snack at night? What do you nosh?
