Kim Kardashian & Miley Cyrus Have a Great Excuse to Pig Out on Pizza

by Mary Fischer on May 7, 2012 at 12:05 PM

pizzaI know it's kind of their job to look good and all, but both Miley Cyrus and Kim Kardashian have really slimmed down a bit these days. They're both looking more svelte than ever, and as it turns out, they're both crediting their slender figures to hopping on the gluten-free bandwagon, which seems to be gaining quite a bit of popularity. (Duh, I've tried it too. And yes, it does work.) But while they are both thrilled with their tight bodies, I can't help but wonder if they miss eating things like Domino's pizza, McDonald's French fries, and bowls of delicious pasta.

Giving up eating anything containing a trace of wheat, barley, or rye can be kind of a challenge, which is why these ladies (and everyone else who is salivating over the thought of eating bread) will be happy to know there is now a great excuse to chow down on Domino's -- because they've got a gluten-free pizza crust in the works. (Yes, please!!)

The new gluten-free pies will be about $3 more than Domino's original crust, but considering they're the first major pizza chain to offer foods for gluten-free diets, most people probably won't mind shelling out a few extra bucks. (And the money obviously won't matter to Miley & Kim.)

But if pizza still seems like a bit too much of an indulgence for A-list ladies, there are some other major restaurant chains who are also offering gluten-free items.

Fast food options include:

Wendy's - Baked potatoes, chili, and even Frostys are gluten-free.

Chick-Fil-A - Gluten-free items include super yummy chargrilled chicken breast filets and grilled chicken nuggets.

Arby's - Plenty of their meats, salads, and even a few breakfast items are gluten-free friendly.

And sit-down restaurant chains are going gluten-free too, including Chili's, Outback Steakhouse, and Carrabba's.

Where are some of your favorite gluten-free places to eat?

I've yet to find a gluten free pizza that isn't a cardboard tasting thin crust at twice the price, and several chains here sell them. So we shall see... I will be trying it, of course.

If you don't have a gluten intolerance, giving up gluten won't help you lose weight. It's probably because you're not eating so many pastries and whatnot that's causing the weight loss.

Their foods aren't only gluten free, its also fat free, low in carb etc.    Gluten free is a healthy diet for people with celiac disease. Its not a weight loss diet.  Dont' fall for these fads.

The people who jump on the gluten-free bandwagon as a weight-loss diet irritate me to no end! My mom legitimately cannot eat gluten because she has Celiac Disease. And whenever she goes out to eat and orders from the gluten-free menu, the servers often don't take her order seriously because of all the gluten-free dieting nuts out there. So, they'll be careless and allow gluten to come into contact with her food and she'll be violently sick for the next 24 hours or more (depending on the exposure). Cross-contamination from just using the same utensils to prepare her food is enough to do it! So, we stick to the same 3 restaurants where the servers have gotten to know us, and are more careful when handling her food. She doesn't eat out very much, and never has, but it's just a shame that her options are so limited because of the diet fad crazies out there.

I'm happy to see these places make dishes that are gluten free however I kinda think they are doing it to keep up with the latest diet fads and not purely the wellbeing of diners with gluten problems. All that being said I don't think people truely understand that going gluten free can have bad side effects if you are not consulting with a nutritionist , if you are not watching your fiber consumption you can become really constipated, you could have liver and gallbladder issues by drastically changing your diet. You could become deficient in vital nutrients : B vitamins, zinc, iron etc. Gluten free is not something to take lightly.

McDonald's fries are NOT gluten free, because they use the same oil to fry them as they do for their breaded chicken and whatnot. I've technically been diagnosed with Celiac, but I'm not that sensitive to it. Other than a small stomach discomfort, I don't have symptoms, so I have a really hard time staying on track completely.

ashjo85 THANK YOU!  I've had to beat that concept into the lunch lady at my son's school of all people! He is most definately gluten-sensitive and once school is out we will be taking him to the children's hospital to have the more extensive testing to confirm suspicions about if he has celiac disease.  She had the nerve to tell me that since he isn't "allergic" to wheat then it isn't a big deal if he accidently gets cross-contaminated food, "it's not like he'll have an anyphylactic (sp?) attack!" I told her she will treat his diet like he would since it's doctor ordered. He has many of the symptoms and when he gets gluten he also gets very depressed and emotional. Not a happy little guy!

Gluten free cooking hasn't been hard at all, the only "hard" recipe I haven't found a good replacement for has been cake. Brownies, cookies and even bread I've got a good recipe for, just not cake!

Applebee's has quite a few items on their menu that are glutenfree. You just have to ask the servers.
