Happy Cinco de Mayo, the holiday that has morphed into an excuse for a big Mexican food-themed party. What an excellent idea. I am all for it. And what do we drink at the Cinco de Mayo fiesta? Margaritas, of course!
We all know about the classic Margarita. But there's dozens of other kinds of Margarita drinks -- and they're actually pretty easy to do at home. Check out these refreshing and festive twists on the Margarita.
Margarita Shots -- Don't bother with little glasses, just use limes! This idea is so cute I could scream. To make these lime Margarita shots just hollow out half limes, rim with salt, and pour some tequila in your new little lime cups.
Margarita Spritzer -- This is a lighter, sparklier version of the Margarita. Skinnytaste's Citrus Margarita Sparkler adds club soda to the traditional recipe. Not a bad idea, especially if you're trying to pace yourself.
Watermelon Margarita -- So easy! You just add chucks of chilled watermelon to the blender with the rest of your ingredients. Here's a simple Watermelon Margarita recipe.
Strawberry Margarita -- Same idea as the watermelon. Chow has a good strawberry Margarita recipe. You could swap in just about any other frozen fruit -- like peaches.
El Necio -- In other words, a tequila martini. You could make a fancy one following this cocktail recipe in Esquire exactly. Or, you could wing it with the basic idea: 2 ounces tequila, 1 ounce vermouth, and some bitters thrown in.
And now, a little something I stole from the Mamas Latinas: A video of a hot fireman making Margaritas. With a kitten. Yes, it's your Cinco de Mayo dream come true. You are SO welcome. Or as they say in Spanish, de nada.
