10 Ways to Cook With Guinness for St. Patrick's Day

St. Patrick's Day is just around the corner, and we're prepping you with all the recipes you'll need! Today we're taking a break from the green and talking Guinness. Yup, recipes using that hearty, heady chocolate stout made in Ireland. Long ago I tried to drink a pint of Guinness on St. Paddy's Day, and I only got about a quarter of the way through. So I decided on that day (after I recovered) that I would find other ways to enjoy my chocolate stout.

So here they are: desserts, dinners, even a drink. They're all rich and intense -- just like the beer. But we know you can handle it!

Nigella Lawson's Guinness Gingerbread: First of all, props to our own Jill Baughman for trying out not one, but two chocolate stout recipes for our Super Bowl Recipe Challenge. The winner was the gingerbread, but the chocolate stout cake was also fantastic.

Chocolate Stout Cake: As good as that gingerbread is, chocolate stout cake is still phenomenal and worth making. Here's a great version.

Chocolate Stout Cupcakes: Meanwhile, we have David Leiberman's cupcakes with cream cheese frosting! Something tells me that cream cheese is really going to sing with the slightly bitter stout flavor.

Bittersweet Chocolate Stout Beer Ice Cream: This could not be easier: chocolate stout, melted chocolate chips, heavy cream, and sugar. WOW, right?

Chocolate Stout Pudding Pie: This pie is beyond decadent. It's insane. I think I need to sit down now after looking over the ingredients list. Oh wait, I am sitting down.

Stout-Soaked Beef: Because chocolate stout isn't just for desserts! According to the chef here ... I don't know what he says there in the beginning. That's one thick brogue! But I think it was something along the lines of "the beer flavor goes well with beef and makes it more tender." This is the #1 dish at Guinness.

Chocolate Stout Chili: I love dousing my chili with beer. (If it tastes good with chili, why not in chili?) And I've heard of using chocolate in chili. So why not chocolate stout? Can't you just taste the rich flavor with the beans and spices?

Vegetarian Chipotle Chocolate Stout Chili: You can never have too many chili recipes! Here's a meatless version -- and you know chipotle is going to be fantastic with chocolate stout.

Chocolate Stout Irish Stew: Along the same lines, this beef stew sounds awfully hearty, doesn't it? With potatoes and carrots. Um, you might want to plan on having some crisp, green salad on the side with this one.

Chocolate Stout Milkshake: Because obviously you'll need something to drink with all these chocolate stout treats.

Have you ever cooked with chocolate stout?
