5 Healthy Foods That Are Anything But

healthy foods not healthyI don't know about you, but I'm getting to the point where I just don't want to eat anything for fear that it will give me cooties. Red meat is good, say the Paleos. But it will kill you, says science. You think if you sat down to a nice bowl of oatmeal that you would be doing a-okay. But now even oatmeal is suspect. Dang it!

In fact, a whole host of healthy foods are now being called out as bad guys in the big picture of your health. Honestly, I give up. However, if you're still interested in finding out what healthy foods are not so healthy, and what non-healthy foods are actually not so bad for you --- read on! And re-stock.

Low-Fat Milk

Apparently whole is better for you, so start changing your latte to a fatty from a skinny! The amount of fat you're avoiding is negligible, but the amount of vitamins A, D, E, & K you get from whole is far better than skim, or low-fat milk. So whole milk keeps your bones healthy, your immune system strong, and skim milk doesn't do jack. Nice!

Sugar Substitutes

I think we all kind of know that real stuff is better than fake, but did you know that low-calorie artificial sugar is actually making you gain weight? Put down the diet soda!

Oatmeal & Whole Grains

I thought oatmeal was the greatest food of all time. However, people are developing nickel allergies thanks to eating lots of whole grains, soy, and good old-fashioned oat meal. It's called too much of a good thing, and it will give you a rash.

Soy

In addition to the possible hormonal side effects, eating lots of tofu and edamame can give you lots of toxins in your system that interfere with digestion and the absorption of minerals. Also, man boobs.

Gluten-Free

And I'll just go out on a limb and let all of you know, as a Celiac, that going gluten-free may be good for those with the autoimmune disease, but eating processed gluten-free foods will make you super fat. Super. Fat.

So before you head out to the grocery store, take a closer look at the health foods you are about to purchase. And always remember; whole foods, non-processed, foods are the best way to go. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
