Red Velvet Waffles With Cream Cheese Frosting

red velvet wafflesWhat to make for breakfast on Valentine's Day? Red velvet cupcakes would be divine -- but if that's a little too decadent for you, how about red velvet waffles! And you might as well add some protein with some cream cheese frosting and a handful of pecans, right? I think I'm in love with this breakfast. 

Readers, I give you the red velvet waffle with cream cheese frosting. It's red and valentine-y, it's sweet, and it will love you on the 14th. Those of you who do not have waffle irons, make these red velvet pancakes and the frosting recipe below. The rest of you, fire up those irons!


Red Velvet Waffles via


  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 1/4 cups sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 4 teaspoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted, cooled
  • 2 cups buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 tablespoons red food coloring


  1. Preheat waffle iron and spray with non-stick cooking spray. 
  2. Separate eggs.
  3. Beat egg whites until stiff.
  4. Mix dry ingredients together, then add wet.
  5. Mix all ingredients together.
  6. Fold in egg whites.
  7. Pour into waffle iron and cook until done.

Cream Cheese Frosting via Food Network


  • 4 ounces unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract


In a large bowl, beat together the butter and cream cheese with an electric mixer. With the mixer on low speed, add the powdered sugar a cup at a time until smooth and creamy. Beat in the vanilla extract.

Serve frosting on the side to dip into, or spread over waffles. For ultimate authenticity, sprinkle chopped pecans on your frosted waffles. Happy Valentine's Breakfast!
