10 Things You Must Do Before Thanksgiving Besides Panic

There's absolutely no way I could be writing a "Thanksgiving To-Do List" because Thanksgiving is still two months and a few days away, right? WRONG. A quick glance at the calendar will confirm your worst nightmare: There's only 17 very short, very hectic days -- practically 2 weeks! -- between right now and the biggest food holiday of the year.

So what does this mean for you? Well, if you're hosting dinner this year, then you have one of two choices: You can have a complete nervous breakdown ... although, while tempting, there's still that giant holiday to deal with. A better idea is to take a deep breath and start preparing for the big day. Here are 10 things you should do right now before Thanksgiving.

10. Decide what you're eating already! This is the worst time to be indecisive. Either go the traditional route with an over-sized turkey (see above photo), or opt for one of our outrageous turkey alternatives.

9. Finalize the guest list (although, be prepared, that if you choose one of the crazy alternates above, not many people will want to come).

8. Delegate, delegate, delegate. In a ideal situation, everyone will bring the Thanksgiving dinner to you!

7. Get a massage. What? That sounds frivolous and maybe not the best use of your precious time? It's the most stressful time of year. Priorities, people!

6. Stock the refrigerator, freezer, and pantry with basic items you know you will need in the coming weeks. Some suggestions include: butter, olive oil, flour, sugar, and cranberries.

5. Stock the liquor cabinet. This should go without saying any time of the year.

4. Buy out all the pumpkin ASAP. It's highly unlikely that the East Coast pumpkin shortage will affect our pie consumption this year, but you can never be too sure.

3. Repeat #4 with pecans. Thanks to drought in the South, there may be a run on pecans, too.

2. Make Buy pie crusts.

1. Admit defeat and make reservations. Just kidding! I promise, if you start now you will be in great shape by the time Thanksgiving Day rolls around.

Are we jumping the gun by starting this early? When do you typically start getting ready for Thanksgiving?
