5 Halloween Cocktails to Spook Your Friends

halloween cocktailsIt's time to get spooky, people! Is there any better way to prep for a Halloween holiday party than by imbibing in a ghoulish cocktail? I thought not. Which is why I valiantly tested, put in beakers, lit on fire, and otherwise enjoyed the following Halloween cocktails. So I can point you in the direction of the ones that make your Halloween fete memorable, long after everyone has taken off the face paint and the wigs.

Here are 5 Halloween cocktails that will knock your guests' socks off.


1. Dark and Stormy

It was, indeed, a dark and stormy night and you'll need to know how to prepare the perfect dark and stormy for your guests.


2 lime wedges
1 teaspoon sugar
4 ounces dark rum
8 ounces ginger beer

1. Place a lime wedge and 1/2 teaspoon sugar in two glasses and muddle.

2. Add 2 ounces of dark rum to each glass and stir. Fill the glasses with ice, and add 4 ounces of ginger beer to each glass. Laugh maniacally, and serve.

Makes: 2 Dark and Stormys

2. The Zombie

You didn't think you were getting out of this party without a zombie reference, did you? Here's how to stir one up.


10 ounces orange juice
4 ounces fresh lemon juice
4 ounces fresh lime juice
6 ounces apricot brandy
6 ounces light rum
6 ounces dark rum
2 ounces Grenadine
Pineapple wedges for garnish

1. Pour all ingredients over a large pitcher of ice and stir until chilled.

2. Fill 10 glasses with crushed ice and strain the mixture out of the large pitcher into the glass.

3. Garnish with pineapple wedges and drink until you're undead.

Makes: 10 Zombies

3. Blood Orange Sparkling Sangria

I learned about this delicious drink from Ciao Bella at BlogHer, the scariest place on earth.


One bottle sparkling wine
1/2 cup Cointreau
1 pint fresh raspberries
1 pint strawberries, cut in small pieces
Ciao Bella Blood orange sorbet

1. Pour wine and Cointreau into a pitcher.

2. Delicately add fruit and ice.

3. Pour into glasses and garnish with Ciao Bella blood orange sorbet. Don't forget to wipe your mouth.

Makes: 8 glasses

4. Bloodless Mary

What's scarier than a Bloody Mary? One who has already been drained of all of her blood.


2 ounces horseradish-infused vodka, chilled
Celery salt
Celery stalk

1. Dip rim of martini glass in water, then celery salt.

2. Pour chilled vodka into glass, garnish with celery stalk.

Makes: 1 Bloodless Mary

5. Rusty Nail

End your night with a rusty nail straight to the head.


4 ounces scotch
2 ounces Drambuie

1. Fill two glasses and a cocktail shaker with ice.

2. Add the scotch and Drambuie to the shaker, but swish, don't shake.

3. Strain into the glasses and serve.

Makes: 2 Rusty Nails
