When it comes to Scary Spider Cupcakes for Halloween, you can go in one of two directions: You can make the cupcakes themselves look like creepy spiders. Or you can wow your friends with your cake decorating prowess by drawing intricate spider web designs on top. (I prefer the second just because it looks so professional and I like to brag.) The cupcakes shown here are chocolate cake with white frosting, but feel free to experiment with a variety of flavors. My favorite combo? Dark chocolate cupcakes with orange-tinted frosting and scary black spider web. Eek!
Spider Cupcakes
Ingredients
- Dark chocolate box cake mix
- Vanilla frosting
- Red and yellow food coloring
- 1 tube black decorating gel
- Plastic spider rings
Instructions
1. Bake cupcakes according to directions on package. Cool.
2. Tint frosting orange using a few drops each of red and yellow food coloring. Frost cupcakes.
3. Starting from the center, squeeze concentric circles of decorating gel on the cupcake. Using a toothpick or sharp paring knife, drag tip from the center to the outer edge. Repeat with other cupcakes.
4. Place plastic spiders on webs.

These are going to be perfect for our halloween party next week!
Cute!
These look fun to make. We were going to make blonde brownies this weekend but maybe I will have to change it to these. I am sure my daughter would have much more fun making these AND we are carving pumpkins too so this will tie right in with our weekend. Thanks.
