Waitress Is Right to Hunt Down Terrible Tipper

51

bad tipperBad tippers be warned, there are servers out there in restaurants who may hunt you down if you don't deliver what they deem an appropriate tip. Servers like Victoria Liss, who has waged an all-out manhunt/smear campaign to make "yuppie scum" Andrew Meyers pay for what he left her.

Meyers moseyed into Bimbo's Cantina in Seattle last Friday night with a lady friend where Liss had the "pleasure" of waiting on them. They had some chips, guac, a double-decker pork taco, and no apparent complaints. When the bill for $28.98 came, it was bad enough that Meyers put a big old zero on the tip line, but it's what he wrote at the bottom of the bill that really pissed Liss off: "P.S. You could stand to loose [sic] a few pounds."

Oh, yes he did ... and in doing so raised the ire of Liss and subsequently mobs of Internet users after Liss set out to pay him back via public shaming.

Since he used his credit card to pay, she got his name. Then she took to the web to spread the word about what he'd done. She encountered a slight hiccup when she thought she'd found him and posted his picture and contact information on Facebook. Only after people from far and wide trashed him did she realize it was the wrong Andrew Meyers. Oops.

But she's not going to let that little slip-up stop her from seeking out the real jerk. She told The Stranger:

When you know you're gonna be a total dick lick, DON'T GIVE THE BARTENDER YOUR CREDIT CARD. We live in a social networking hub, don't shit where you eat.

She scares me a bit, but I don't blame her for being angry. Tips are how servers make their livings, and unless there's a major problem with service that can't be resolved, it's just not okay to stiff them. To go beyond that and flat-out insult them is just childish and rude, and it serves him right if he's exposed for the jerk he is. I hope he's shaking in his scummy yuppie shoes.

Are you scared to leave a bad tip for fear your server will retaliate? Do you think Liss has gone too far in her quest to track down this bad tipper?

I will gladly over tip if the server was good. But when it takes 20min to get a refill, 30min to get the check and they never come over to see if anything is needed then I'm not leaving much. My bday dinner took 3 1/2 hrs. He then screwed up the bills 4 times. But he tried so hard and felt so bad that we tipped him great. Attitude makes all the difference

We don't know the circumstances to the the story. She could have been a total bitch to the guy which is why he maybe didn't leave a tip and left her a little message instead, but who knows.  Personally, I wouldn't have gone as far as writing her a mean note, but I don't leave tips when I get bad service.

Dude was obviously a jerk. My momma was a waitress before I was born and my daddy always taught me to leave 15% for average service and 20%+ for great service. I will still tip even if the service sucks because we all have bad days sometimes and I know that they are paid crap and taxed on their tips whether they get them or not. Now one time I did have a man serve my family who was OBVIOUSLY stoned. I tipped him at only 10% and wrote on the back of the customer reciept (the one the boss doesn't see) "you should really lay off the pot before work..." I left that face up so it was the first thing he saw when he opened the black bill holder thingy. But in general I try to be sympathetic and realize that it isn't always their fault if the kitchen screws up or the host over seats them and if I have a big problem I talk to the manager.

Sorry, but does the author know this woman? Is there any reason to believe that a $0.00 tip may have been justified? Sorry, but most people don't just walk into any establishment, leave $0 for a tip, as well as a nasty note just for the fun of it, and frankly, from an interview with her that I read it certainly seemed to me like she's got an attitude problem. It wouldn't surprise me in the least that the no-tip was deserved given the general demeanor the interview conveys.

Umm, have any media tools even bothered to find and interview this guy for his side of the story? What if she's just an atrocious, rude, and inattentive narcissist? I don't mean to suggest she's a terrible person, but since we only have ONE side of the story we have to allow for the idea that this guy was retaliating rather than just being an abject ass. Just because this waitress says there were no "issues" doesn't mean anything. Typical of media hacks, though. This unbalanced and outrageously unimportant story sucked up a few minutes of "Good Morning America" today. What a joke.

She needs to grow up.

I don't miss waiting tables one bit. This is why and I guess if he wants to be so bold then she can too!

By the way he needs to grow up and keep his comments to himself. If she was a crappy waitress then tell a manager.
