See what CafeMoms are saying about saving time this holiday season..
In general, I consider mozzarella sticks "one of those foods I used to eat." You know, the kind you ate when your metabolism still allowed you to hang out in bars every weekend and eat bar food while you were there without gaining a pound.
But I recently came across a recipe for these delicious, decadent sticks that are a bit healthier than the original fried version, but still satisfying. The basic recipe is from Food.com, but you can modify them all sorts of ways by changing up the spices or the type of breadcrumbs you use. They make a great snack or appetizer.
Oven-Fried Mozzarella Sticks
In a small bowl, beat eggs and water.
In a plastic bag, combine breadcrumbs, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, and pepper.
Coat cheese sticks in flour, then dip in egg mixture and breadcrumb mixture.
Repeat egg and breadcrumb coatings.
Cover and chill for at least 4 hours or overnight.
Place on an ungreased baking sheet and drizzle with butter.
Bake, uncovered, at 400 degrees for 6-8 minutes or until heated through.
Allow to stand for 3-5 minutes before serving.
Use marinara sauce for dipping.
