Michelle Obama, aka the First Lady of Fitness, was recently caught chowing down on a whopping 1,700-calorie meal from New York's famed Shake Shack. What did it entail? Oh, you know, a cheeseburger, fries, a Diet Coke, and a chocolate milkshake. Damn. Mrs. O. likes her nom-noms. Perhaps she had a late night the day before, 'cause that sounds like some hangover food right there.
I know what you all are thinking right now. "Oh, I thought Michelle was supposed to be all into health, etc." She is, so hush up! That woman is the picture of physical fitness. If she wants to have a burger and fries once in a great while, she has every right to.
It's something else that's bothering me about this whole thing ...
Shake Shack closed down for the First Lady when she went to get her eat on. Yeah, yeah, I get the whole "security" thing, but she flat-out did not get the Shake Shack experience. And I know from ... experience.
For those of you who don't live in New York, let me tell you a little something about Shake Shack -- the line is huge. No, HUGE. The one I've been to -- the original -- is a little stand in the middle of Madison Square Park and there's a line that wraps all the way around the park. Like this:
Do you see all those people? You see how far away they are? That's because I'm way back at the end of the line. I waited for about an hour.
Crazy, right? But let me tell you, when I got to the front of that line to order my goods -- holy God -- was it worth it. They could have served me a pigeon on a stick at that point and I would have devoured it whole. But they didn't. They served me a juicy patty on a buttered bun. With extra Shack sauce. It was so glorious a single tear rolled down my cheek, only to be wiped away by a ketchup-stained napkin.
Point is, Michelle didn't get this experience. She just waltzed in all First Lady-like and, boom, had her burger. You're missing out, Michelle. Trust me.
That said, I'm still glad she got a chance to indulge in some greasy, fried food for once. 'Cause with her bangin' bod, you know she doesn't eat it often. Do you, Michelle.
What do you think of Michelle Obama eating unhealthy food?

I'm proud that she lives in a country that allows her the "right" to decide what she wants to eat. Now let me too.
Part of having a healthy lifestyle is knowing that you can treat yourself occasionally. Have a burger and a shake to ballance out all the organic food you eat most of the time.
Now I want a milkshake.
lol...I'm sure treating herself once in awhile won't kill her. ;)
Well like I have discussed with my kids, it is about choices. What I hate is that being on foodstamps you know what type of food goes the furthest? Junk food. You want to make a life saving change, make the healthier food CHEAPER. Right now I am on Food Stamps due to my husband losing his job and me not being able to get one in my field where we live. The food stamps go further on the junk food, not that I am buying a lot of it, but it is the reality. The poorest in our country are forced to make the decision of a healthy diet or making it through the end of the month with the food stamp allowance they get. You want to understand where our health problems start, look at what the poorest and lower middle class have as options to make their dollar stretch. I try to buy at the local farms when I can but again I only have so much out of my own pocket I can afford. If she wants to chow down on a burger, fries and a shake have at it. If she wants to make a difference, help change the way Food Stamps are calculated and how available the more nutritious foods are at the grocery stores.
Good for her. It's okay to be bad every now and then....moderation:)
I think Michelle Obama is a human. Its great that she has a good healthy lifestyle, and its okay that she enjoys things that arent so healthy once in a while. Eating is all about balance, and I think shes more aware about her balanced eating more then anyone. She knows whats best for her. Shes done a fine job this far feeding herself, Im pretty sure shell continue to do so even after her burger and fries.
Kristen,
hang in there! I hope things get better for you and your and your and your family. Our Farmers market has started taking food stamps recently! as well as three of our food co-ops. sooooo maybe things will change soon as people become more open to new ideas.. All you can do is the best you can. I remember my Ramen noodle and rice days.. Good thoughts from my side coming your way!
The lines aren't always long. I LOVE SHAKE SHACK!
