You know what I don't want to see if I'm a dude going to a casino? A middle-aged woman in a skimpy flapper costume serving me a Long Island Iced Tea (or whatever awesome dudes are drinking these days). You know what I don't want to do if I'm a middle-aged cocktail waitress? Serve cocktails to wasted jerks in a skimpy flapper costume. Seems like a win-win then, right? Eh, not so much.
Seven women who were fired from Resorts Casino Hotel are suing the owner, Dennis Gomes, because they believe they were let go because they didn't look good in the new slutty outfits Dennis picked out. The women were instructed to model the outfits -- no need to be a rocket scientist to figure out that the older ladies were canned, while younger, more attractive gals found themselves with a new job, chock-full o' self respect. Now, instead of taking the obvious feminist route and saying what a jerk Gomes is, etc., I'm going to argue what idiots the ladies are. Hear me out.
Ladies, do you really want to walk around in these ridiculous costumes? I'm sure you're all respectable women -- is dressing up like it's Halloween at Tri Delta something you want to do every night? Ugh, I can't think of anything worse (well, maybe a few things ...)!
I understand you need jobs. Trust me, I know what it's like to need a job. With your experience, though, surely you'll find something else. And if you don't, you'll probably win this lawsuit.
Imagine in it, ladies: You, walking around in super-short, super-tight dresses. Them, demanding more Midori with their sour, barely giving you tips, barking orders at you left and right. Throw in a dash of general anxiety about your cellulite showing -- you've got yourself a little slice of hell on earth.
Of course Gomes is a jerk, and of course he should pay for what he did. That's not what I'm saying here. But, I think, in a weird little way, you ladies got out of something horrendously degrading, so at least you have that.
What do you think of Dennis Gomes firing these women?
