Say what you want about Gwyneth Paltrow. I love her. It's not necessarily something I'm proud of, but, if memory serves me correct, she was my first girl crush, so I'll always feel a sense of loyalty to her -- crazy forays and all. Today, though, she's really testing my allegiance. This morning, I learned there might be a Gwyneth Paltrow magazine. Too. Much.
When she won the Oscar for Shakespeare in Love, I cheered. When she did that cooking show with Mario Batali, Spain ... On the Road Again, I TiVoed. When she announced her newsletter, Goop, I signed up. When she sang at the Grammys, I squirmed a bit (Gwynnie, don't dance). But a magazine? I don't know if I can do that.
According to the New York Post, Gwyneth is in top secret talks with uber-publisher, Hearst, to start a magazine in the vain of Oprah Winfrey's O, or the Food Network Magazine -- both of which are crazy successful. A Gwyneth Paltrow magazine, though? She's wonderful and all -- and I do think she has helpful tips -- but she's no Oprah. I hate to say it, but she's not even Rachael Ray.
Despite a source saying that the project is "super-secret," Hearst is denying the thing altogether (which, if it's super-secret, obviously). A spokeswoman for the publisher said, "Beyond her occasionally appearing on our magazine covers, we don't have any other projects in the works with Gwyneth Paltrow." I hope that's the case, Hearst, I hope.
It's going to be hard to take Gwyneth seriously. The woman's all over the place. First, she was an actress. Then, she was a chef, or foodie, or something relating to cooking and eating. Now, she's a singer! Which are you? Which topic will your magazine focus on? Food? Music? Acting, food-loving musicians? You know what they say about "Jacks of all Trades," G (they're masters of none).
I really hope you're not doing a magazine, Gwyneth. I mean, you heard what I said about you above -- and I mean it. I always will love you. But I just don't think I could purchase your magazine. Except maybe once just to see what it's all about.
What do you think about a Gwyneth Paltrow magazine?
