Want a Fat Ho? Well, then you should have a Fat Ho, served up with a smile for only a couple bucks. Want fries with your Ho?
What? It's the name of a hamburger, of course. Clever, no? Not so, according to some who are flamin' mad about a new burger joint in Waco, Texas, that serves up the Hos and is named, what else but: Fat Ho Burgers. They also boast fare like Sloppy Ho Brisket and the Supa Dupa Fly Ho with Chz. It's ho heaven.
Ironically, it's located close to The Gospel Cafe and in the heart of the Bible Belt. Pastor Marcia Martie told MyFOXdfw, "Would've been nice to think a little more sensitively." There's also a Facebook group urging its owner, Lakita Evans, to change the name.
Evans defends the name and says it's just for fun. She told MyFOXdfw:
It’s not calling people a ho. It’s just like they say, "Oooh that ho is big," or, "That ho is tight!"
Which is I guess supposed to make people feel better about it? But seriously, who cares? I think it's pretty clever. If it was some skinny white corporate guy using the name, that would be one thing; and if someone called me a fat ho, I'd definitely be pissed -- more because of the fat than the ho part though. But in this case, Evans is just having fun.
I say good for her. She worked her way through school to start this business, took a risk on an outrageous name, and business is booming. A Texas musician even created a theme song for the restaurant. Check out this video -- but be warned, it will be stuck in your head, and you'll be dying for your own Fat Ho.
In the end, if people don't like the name, they don't have to eat there. And really, it's a lot tamer than Pink Taco, now isn't it?
Do you think Fat Ho Burgers is an offensive name for a restaurant?
