Were you planning on eating a Lean Cuisine for lunch today? You may want to reconsider that choice after hearing about the latest food recall. Lean Cuisine Simple Favorites Spaghetti With Meatballs has been recalled -- specifically some packages that have already been shipped to distributors and retail stores east of the Rockies.
The recall was spurred by complaints about red, hard plastic in the product from consumers in Minnesota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin. No injuries have been reported, but ewww!
The recalled packages bear the UPC code 13800-10390 with the production code 0298595519 P, according to Lean Cuisine maker, Nestle.
Nestle assures that customers who bought the entree can contact the company at 866-606-8264 or by e-mailing leancuisine@casupport.com for more info and to receive a coupon for a replacement entree.
But would you really want a replacement?
This is just another sad illustration of how most overly-processed foods are garbage. I used to love Lean Cuisines ... Smart Ones ... Healthy Choice. It was a great go-to, calorie-conscious way to eat at work or at school. But then I started looking at the ingredients and thinking, "What is half of that stuff?" and also, it didn't take too long before I realized most of them have measly, eensy-weensie portions of the good stuff (veggies/protein) and LOTS more wet, soggy carb-o filler (rice, pasta).
These days, I try to steer clear of frozen entrees. With recalls like this one, it's not hard to see why that might be a good idea. (Where did those pieces of plastic come from anyway?)
But that's just me. I know people who swear by their frozen dinners. It's the easiest way for them to eat "healthy." It's convenient, too, sure. And I guess a Lean Cuisine beats a Big Mac ... as far as calories and fat go, but a nutritionist would tell you you'd probably be doing your weight/your health/your hormones/your body much more of a favor to go for a meal made of FRESH ingredients you recognize. As in, a meal not made in a factory. That way, you're pretty much guaranteed to not have to worry about having hard red plastic pieces embedded in your frozen meatball!
Does this Lean Cuisine recall worry you?

Does not worry me because I would NOT eat this to begin with.
Doesn't worry me because I don't eat that shit anyways.
You know that crap happens right? People make mistakes? Yeah its gross but I actually dont like the tone of your blog at all, its nasty and biased.
I can think of worse things that people could be finding in food...
@Rosesandliliy: Well, the stuff is garbage in a pretty box. I do eat frozen dinners, but, I am not so stupid as to not realize it's processed junk and nothing about it is good for you.
When I'm chasing after my kids, my choice is often eat nothing, eat a handful of crackers/cookies, or eat a microwave meal. I'd like to think the microwave meal is the healthiest option.
I don't eat frozen/processed meals, so it doesn't concern me. I agree that the only way to know what you're eating is to stop being so lazy/busy (or whatever the excuse is) to buy and prepare your food.
Laughing at the comment about the post being nasty and biased, too - it's amazing how people with low standards for food get irate at the people with higher standards. Also, "crap happens" sounds like a great slogan for Lean Cuisine, and similar meals....
Doesn't concern me at all b/c I don't eat that crap. It may be quick and 'convenient' but it tastes nasty (to me at least)! give me REAL home-made pasta any day!
