If there's one thing that everyone looks forward to as St. Patrick's Day approaches, it's the classic bright green Shamrock Shake. But not everyone hightails it to McDonald's for the frosty mint beverage; many people prefer the homemade version. If you find yourself in the second camp, here's an easy recipe to replicate the Shamrock in the comfort of your own home.
Shamrock Shake from Epicurious.com
- 2 cups vanilla ice cream
- 1 1/4 cups 2% low-fat milk
- 1/4 teaspoon mint extract
- 8 drops green food coloring (optional)
Blend ingredients in a blender until smooth. Pour into two cups.
Another alternative? Two cups mint chocolate chip ice cream blended smooth with 1 1/4 cups milk (although you will have little chunks of chocolate in your shake -- the horror!).
Do you make Shamrock Shakes at home or buy the real thing at McDonald's?

I just use the mint ice cream. I don't care if I have chocolate chunks floating around in it!
