3 Wacky Margarita Recipes to Shake Up Your Celebration

national margarita dayIf there was ever a drink that deserves its own holiday, the margarita is it. Today is National Margarita Day 2011, and I for one couldn't be happier! A margarita is the perfect blend of sweet and salty to get any night started off right. And although they are absolutely delish -- mango margarita is my personal fave -- they can get a bit boring.

Want to kick your party up a few extra notches? Take a look at these wacky margarita recipes guaranteed to throw a curve-ball in your celebration. Break out the shakers and salt, it's fiesta time!

If you like it on the rocks, then this spicy melon margarita is right up your alley. Garnished with a red chile, sample at your own risk.

What you'll need:

  • 1 ounce melon liqueur
  • 1 1/2 ounces reposado tequila
  • 1 ounce fresh squeezed lime
  • 2 - 3 slices fresh jalapeno
  • 1 red chile

Mix it up:

1. Combine all ingredients, aside from the chile, in a shaker. 

2. Rim your margarita glass with salt by dipping the rim on a wet napkin and dipping in kosher salt.

3. Pour over ice in the prepared margarita glass, and garnish with chile pepper.

If beer is your drink of choice, then there's no reason to ignore it today. Combine the best of both worlds in this beer margarita:

What you'll need:  

  • 1/2 cup thawed frozen limeade
  • 2 bottles of beer (the lighter, the better)
  • 1/2 cup chilled tequila
  • 1 lime, wedged
  • 1/4 cup salt
  • 1 cup ice

Mix it up:

1. In a pitcher, combine limeade, beer, and tequila.

2. Rub glass rims with lime, dip in salt. Fill each glass with crushed ice and margarita mixture. Serve immediately.

What you'll need:

  • 1.5 ounces Tanteo Jalapeno tequila
  • 0.5 ounce pear puree
  • 1 ounce lime juice
  • 1/4 cup orange juice
  • 1 ounce simple syrup
  • 0.5 ounce Bacardi 151
  • Nutmeg for garnish

Mix it up:

1. Combine all ingredients in a shaker, shake. Pour mixture into glasses and garnish with a dusting of nutmeg.
