3 Thanksgiving-Inspired Desserts

turkey cupcakesEveryone always expects pumpkin or apple pie as the grand finale of Thanksgiving dinner. But that doesn't mean you can't serve a whimsical dessert along with the traditional favorites. Here's a fun idea: Dress up boring cookies and cupcakes to look like the guest of honor of the big day -- the turkey!

Turkey cupcakes are always gobbled up in no time at all. The design pictured right is so simple to make: Nutter Butter Sandwich Cookies look just like the head and neck of the turkey. Use white frosting to "glue" on chocolate chip eyes, candy corn beak, and a red hot for the snood.

You can also go even simpler by using candy corn for the turkey's tail feathers -- shown here. Or go over the top with Oreos, Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, and Malt Balls for the ultimate turkey cupcake.

Turkey cookies were always a tradition in my house growing up. My mom would make classic sugar cookie cutouts in the shape of turkeys ahead of time and we'd all decorate them together on Thanksgiving Day with colored frosting, candy, the works.

And if you don't feel like baking, you can construct these adorable turkey cookies using fudge stripe cookies and Rollos.
