7 Restaurant Splurges We Peasants Can Only Dream About

We all go out for nice dinners from time to time, whether it's to celebrate a birthday, an anniversary, or some other momentous occasion. But I doubt any of those nice dinners -- perhaps even combined together -- could match this: A rookie for the Dallas Cowboys recently paid nearly $55,000 for a steakhouse dinner for his teammates.

That player, Dez Bryant, is reportedly making $2.8 million this year, so it probably didn't hurt his bottom line TOO much.

Mere mortals -- myself included -- will not likely ever eat a comparable meal. But, instead of letting jealous feelings creep up, I say we gawk at other ridiculous restaurant splurges and find comfort in the fact that we are much more responsible with our food budgets.

Burger Splurge: Wall Street Burger Shoppe's Richard Nouveau Burger

Cost: $175

What Makes It Worth It: This burger is made from top-of-the-line Kobe beef and topped with aged Gruyere, black truffles, foie gras (goose liver), and golden truffle mayonnaise. But will it ruin McDonald's for you for life? Perhaps not worth the gamble.

Pizza Splurge: Nino's Bellissima Pizza

Cost: $1,000

What Makes It Worth It: $750 worth of caviar. It's also rumored to have creme fraiche (that's "soured cream" to the rest of us), lobster, and wasabi. That's totally justifiable, right?

Brunch Splurge: Norma's at Le Parker Meridien's Zillion Dollar Frittata

Cost: $1,000

What Makes It Worth It: Lobster and caviar dress up this egg dish to make it ready for its very expensive close-up. You'd, of course, gain bragging rights by association.

Cocktail Splurge: The Mai Tai at the Merchant Hotel in Belfast

Cost: $1,300

What Makes It Worth It: Thanks to a 17-year-old bottle of rum, it's allegedly the world's most expensive cocktail. I wonder how it stacks up to T.G.I. Friday's? The world may never know.

Steak Splurge: This $8,000 steak sounds like it's gone, but there's still Wagyu beef, which can be found nationwide at various establishments.

Cost: For just about $44/pound, you can even order it from Amazon.

What Makes It Worth It: Extensive marbling is its trademark, resulting in a buttery texture. (But I've never tried it before, so I can't speak from personal experience ...)

Cheese Sandwich Splurge: Created by UK TV chef Martin Blunos

Cost: GBP110 (about $172)

What Makes It Worth It: It has 100-year-old balsamic vinegar and gold dust. Certainly beats Kraft Singles, doesn't it?

Sundae Splurge: Serendipity 3's Frrrozen Haute Chocolate

Cost: $25,000

What Makes It Worth It: It contains 28 cocoas AND edible gold. That's worth the price of a midsize sedan, isn't it?
