You'll Never Eat Another Chicken Nugget Again

This Is a Chicken Nugget. No, Really.
One thing about going vegetarian this month, I don't have to worry about eating chicken nuggets. While we often playfully ask, "What part of the chicken does a nugget come from?" it wasn't until I got a load of this photo over at Gizmodo that I learned the answer to that question.

The truth is not pretty. Please feel free to click over, then return for more disgusting-ness in nugget news.

The fact is an entire chicken is put through the processor: Eyes, beaks, and as my grandmother so politely put it -- the part that goes over the fence last. Then it's mushed up together to create this pink goo.

Disgusted yet? No? Then read on.

The original post at Early Onset of Night explained the whole process of chicken, to pink goo, then nugget. Of course this is a disgusting process, one filled with bacteria and things that might kill you.

There’s more: because it’s crawling with bacteria, it will be washed with ammonia, soaked in it, actually. Then, because it tastes gross, it will be reflavored artificially. Then, because it is weirdly pink, it will be dyed with artificial color.

Yum! Do you deserve a chicken nugget break today? I hope not, as that means you've done some very bad, bad, bad things.

Are you now off nuggets?

It's not just chicken nuggets, actually. It's pretty much any fast food chicken.

But I still eat hotdogs and I know how disgusting they are, so...

OMG -- this is like an out of control internet rumor that is about as reliable as providing your bank account numbers to someone in a foreign country who says they want to transfer millions into your account!!!! :)

If you read the post, take a minute to read

It is NOT true that this is how chicken nuggets are commonly made. The vast majority do not contain MSP. Nuggets are usually made from pieces of white meat and sometimes from a combination of white and dark meat. Some processed meat products do contain MSP and this is stated on the ingredient statement by law.

Hope this helps -- Janet Riley, American Meat Institute, Washington, DC

Before you go standing around your water cooler gagging over this, check out the truth. http://www.snopes.com/food/prepare/msm.asp What kind of "writer" blatantly types false garbage? To Mrs April Peveteaux, now I do admit that MSP is not the most fabulous of food processes, but seriously, at least stick to the facts. Seriously.

Since 2003 McDonalds chicken nuggets have been made from nothing but the white meat of chickens-So continue to enjoy. Also MSC does not enclude the eyes, gutts, etc as stated but are the bits of meat ,tendons and muscle still remaining on the bones that years ago was wasted and thrown away because it had to be scraped off my hand. The same is true of MSM. The ammonia thing is a bunch of hoot.
