For her son Austin's first birthday, Christina, who blogs over at The Dann Family Chronicles, put together a construction-themed party.
A favorite for young boys' birthdays, Christina kept the construction theme from being too retail kitschy by adding in her own details.
Guests were welcomed to the party with big "Dig In" signs that she made by cutting out letters from foam pieces and gluing them on a painted piece of wood. The sweets bar carried on the theme colors, filled with various orange, yellow, brown & white candies and desserts. For added whimsy, she wrapped different sizes of styrofoam blocks in scrapbook paper and set the trays of desserts on them.
The centerpieces alternated between buckets of daffodils and buckets of candy. She also sprinkled nuts & bolts, party blowers, construction hats, miniature construction cones, little trucks, and party hats all along the tables.
Even though it was raining, the kids managed to get some time in the play area which consisted of a sand pit, children's horseshoes, and construction trucks.
For favors, the kids took home buckets filled with an orange kazoo, orange or yellow crazy straw, yellow bubblegum cigar, a yo-yo that looked like a tire, a small truck, a construction activity sheet, and a bulldozer cookie.
Even with the inclement weather, it seems as if this party was a huge hit!
Have you ever had a construction-themed party?
