Popovers: Cooking With Kids

April Peveteaux

popoversPopovers are one of those amazing foods that taste like a French woman slaved over a hot stove, anxiously watching through the window to make sure they turn out just right. In reality, popovers are one of the easiest things you will ever make that will wow your dinner guests.

So easy, in fact, your child can do it. Just like my girl Esme did!

Your kiddo can help measure and mix everything together in a matter of minutes. You'll need to monitor the oven, but hey, you wouldn't let a 4-year-old touch a hot oven anyway, right?

What you'll need:

  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon melted butter

Sift together flour and salt. Make a well in the flour, break eggs into well, add milk and butter, and stir until smooth. Pour into buttered muffin pan and put into 350-degree oven for 20 minutes. Increase heat to 450 degrees for 10 minutes; reduce heat and allow to sit in warm oven for 10 minutes.

Out of the oven will come these light, buttery, delicious fluffy bites of heaven! You cannot eat just one. I guarantee it.
