On the surface this looks like your typical festive July 4th cake. Uncle Sam profile? Check. Patriotic message? Check. Red, white, and blue frosting? Check, check, check.
But don't be fooled: This isn't your average Independence Day dessert. There's a really fun surprise inside ...
Ta-da! It's a flag!

Flag cakes are a popular dessert on the 4th simply because they look so cool -- and this one that Amanda Rettke from i am mommy made is no exception.
So how do you make the interior flag design? It's easier than you might think. Simply cut out a circle from the top blue layer and fill it with red and white cake. Click the link for a helpful flag cake tutorial to see how it's done.
Have you made a flag cake? What are you making for dessert on July 4th?

pretty neat surprise for the guest!

pnukey you could use a bit of food coloring on white cake mix...but i would think this would be a messy treat to both make and eat?
OMG that is so cool...don't think I have the skills to make that. We just had ice cream for the 4th.
That's too much work for me. It's pretty though,.
