It's not like airline food has ever been particularly good, but a new report reveals that it could actually be hazardous to your health.
After reviewing government documents, USA Today reports that many airline meals are prepared in conditions that are "unsanitary," "unsafe," and could make you sick.
And by unsanitary they mean roaches (both of the live and dead variety), mice, flies, and other creatures were found in the facilities where the food is made. Food was stored at improper temperatures, and workers didn't practice proper hygiene.
Ew, ew, and ewwwww!
In the past couple of years the FDA has issued numerous citations to the three facilities that prepare the majority of food for most U.S. airlines.
"In spite of best efforts by the FDA and industry, the situation with in-flight catered foods is disturbing, getting worse and now poses a real risk of illness and injury to tens of thousands of airline passengers on a daily basis," Roy Costa, a consultant and public health sanitarian, told USA Today.
Not that many airlines provide food anymore anyway, but when they do, no matter how unsavory, I always look forward to it because it passes the time. Next time I'll just pass.
Will you eat airline food after learning about the conditions in which much of it is prepared?
