When I heard that KFC was following up on the success of its infamous Double Down with a new sandwich, visions of barbecued chicken pieces -- or, even better, boneless wings -- flanking bacon and melted cheese danced in my head.
If you remember, the Double Down (pictured here) is bacon and cheese sandwiched between two pieces of fried chicken; therefore, I expected the Doublicious, a.k.a. "The Son of the Double Down" to be equally unhealthy and, of course, equally bunless.
Was I ever wrong ...
Instead, according to Fast Food Maven, the sandwich features a boneless chicken filet topped with bacon, Monterey Jack cheese, and Colonel’s Sauce all in a sweet Hawaiian Bread bun. (Click the link to see a pretty underwhelming image of the product.)
A Hawaiian bread bun? I thought the whole point of the Double Down was that it was bunless, so I would fully expect any spawn to also be protein-laden and sans bread. How is this a follow-up?
More important, how am I supposed to rant about this sandwich? It's too boring! Maybe when it debuts on July 5, I'll come up with something. Stay tuned ...
Are you excited to try the Doublicious?
