Friendly's Grilled Cheese BurgerMelt: The Latest Food Atrocity

18

Friendly's Grilled Cheese BurgerMeltMove over Double Down, there's a new food atrocity in town: Friendly's Grilled Cheese BurgerMelt.

There wasn't much creativity in naming, as it's pretty much what it sounds like: A hamburger wedged between two grilled cheese sandwiches. And, of course, there's mayo.

Take a minute to digest that one.

One of the most nutritionally unfriendly sandwiches ever, it contains 1,500 calories and 79 grams of fat, almost triple that of KFC's disgusting Double Down.

Would you like a side of fries with your heart attack? Oh wait, it actually comes with fries.

I really want to know who would order something like this. Really.

A frat boy on a dare? Someone who just got out of jail?

Tell me it's not just your average Joe out for dinner on a Tuesday night. Please.

My instinct (and hope) is that these products perpetuate the market because they get publicity, because they get people talking about a particular restaurant -- even if it's in a very negative way. I can't imagine restaurants create these excessive items because they think and/or have found that people will actually order them.

Or maybe I'm wrong? Maybe Americans are this hungry and this in denial about what food like this can do to their bodies and their lives. Maybe Americans do eat like this and restaurants are just meeting demand.

Given our nation's obesity epidemic, I just may be dead wrong.

Do you know anyone who would order and eat Friendly's Grilled Cheese BurgerMelt?

Isn't that nasty?  When I saw the commercial, I paused it so I could get a closer look, because I didn't think I was actually seeing a burger with 2 grilled cheese sandwiches as the bun.  And someone was paid to come up with this idea.....

Yep Yep...they have test kitchens and everything. This must have tested well for it to have made the menu...

Now that just sounds awful.

That looks better than the Double Down.  The Double Down looked nasty, this at least looks appatizing. :D

OK. My theory on all this over the top ,heart attack inducing, extreme "comfort food" being marketed right now?

Publicists and their culinary counterparts are banking on peoples stress levels going through the roof in this economy. Everyone is cutting back on everything even "little luxuries" such as the occasional drive thru meal, and they feel deprived as a result.

What these crazy meals are supposed to conjure up in those are  feelings of naughtiness, cheating, splurging, and self gratification. All of you puritanical naysayers are simply falling for the same ploy but on the other side of the coin.

Food is a powerful tool. We all gotta eat, you know. We just don't have to eat marketing ploys, and 10,000 calorie sandwiches! :)
