New Fake Chicken Actually Tastes Like Chicken!

It's a good day for chickens and vegetarians.

According to Time, scientists at the University of Missouri have announced that they have finally figured out a way to make credible vegetarian chicken. The soy version not only breaks apart in your mouth like real chicken does -- no easy feat indeed -- but it also tastes like chicken, too.

As someone who eats a lot of fake meat -- correction: as someone who chokes down a lot of fake meat -- this is great news!

In my recent quest to eat less meat, I've been experimenting with a lot of fake meat products -- including Tofurky and seitan. Now, I know plenty of non-meat eaters swear by these products, but they just don't taste good to me. In fact, I'd rather skip 'em all together and eat a plate of vegetables.

Chicken is supposedly even harder to replicate -- than, say, turkey -- because of its delicate flavor and fibrous texture. That's exactly why it has taken scientists more than 10 years to come up with a credible fake product. Turtle Island Foods -- the creator of Tofurky -- and its competitors are now considering whether to buy this new vegetarian chicken product.

Though plant-based meat (versus real meat) is arguably better for the planet and our bodies; some food sites are wondering whether the amount of processing these products require will take a toll on either.

And I'm dying to know what it tastes like. I'm trying not to get my hopes up given my dislike for other vegetarian meat, but wouldn't it be amazing if it actually tasted authentic?

Do you eat fake meat? What's your favorite product?
