Dr. Pepper Barbecue Sauce for Grilling
One of the most popular recipes of all time here on The Stir is One-Pot Dr. Pepper Pork Chops -- remember that one? Mmmmmm ...
Ever since, I've been looking for a way to incorporate that sweet-and-sour cola flavor into other dishes, particularly grilled meats for the summer. I love this recipe for Dr. Pepper Barbecue Sauce. You brush it on a few minutes before grilling; it's also great for dipping.
Dr. Pepper Barbecue Sauce
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter (1/2 stick)
- 1 large yellow onion, chopped
- 4 cloves garlic, chopped
- 1 cup ketchup
- 3 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1 (12-ounce) can Dr. Pepper
- 1/2 cup cider vinegar
- 1/3 cup Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 cup packed dark brown sugar
- 2 teaspoons chili powder
- 1 teaspoon pepper
- 1 teaspoon salt
Melt butter. Saute onion and garlic in butter until soft (about 10 minutes). Add remaining ingredients, bring to a boil, then simmer about 15 minutes. Continue cooking until sauce begins to thicken (about 20 to 30 minutes). Cool sauce slightly. Puree in blender. Brush on food or serve for dipping.
What are you grilling on Memorial Day?
