With summer just around the corner, you may be looking into summer camps for your kids. But if your child has a birthday coming up, you can use those camps as inspiration, which is exactly what Gretchen of the blog Bashful Events did for her daughter's 5th birthday.

Photo by Bashful EventsWhat to serve:
What's camping without hot cocoa and s'mores? Gretchen created a hot cocoa bar and s'mores station to keep things organized. For the hot cocoa bar, she provided mini marshmallows, peppermints, and white chocolate and milk chocolate cocoa powder. Yum! Over at the s'mores station: Graham crackers, marshmallows, and chocolate. Wow, I bet those kids were hyper afterward!

Activities:
Think of what you'd do when camping in real life and then turn into a craft.
For example, the kids went "fishing" with a pole and magnets (her daughter decorated the fish), and they practiced their target shooting with a rubber band gun and Styrofoam cups. They also made pet rocks and decorated canvas bags.

Decorations: Gretchen created a campground atmosphere by setting up tents and a faux fire pit using an indoor "fire" that she bought at Party City and surrounded it with real fire wood.
