First it was the Fifth Third ballpark burger; then heart attack-themed restaurants; and now the KFC Double Down Sandwich with bacon and cheese sandwiched between two pieces of fried (alleged) chicken -- enough already!
I'm sick of restaurants introducing egregiously unhealthy menu items in what can only be viewed as a pathetic ploy for media attention.
I know, I know. Even a negative post about the Double Down is playing directly into the greedy hands of KFC's marketing team, who think that bloggers' sole reason for existence is to subsidize its advertising budget.
But I can't in good conscience not point out how angry it makes me that this sandwich -- with its 540 calories, 32g of fat and 1380mg of sodium -- should be treated so lightly, for example, when one website calls it "man's greatest achievement." Hardly.
Maybe I'm being Captain Un-Fun today, but I fail to see how obesity is funny.
The problem with media outlets devoting so much coverage to these outrageous menu items is that fast food restaurants' more standard fare -- in the case of KFC, fried chicken, mac 'n' cheese, biscuits -- almost seems healthy in comparison.
All the attention given to really gross food monstrosities like the Double Down is causing us to be desensitized to the less offensive yet still unhealthy, obesity-causing fast food items. In effect, we're convincing ourselves that we are doing our bodies a favor by turning down the Double Down in favor of a bucket 'o' chicken and mashed potatoes slathered in gravy.
If they even are mashed potatoes ... let's not forget why KFC has such a short name in the first place.
Are you disgusted by outrageous menu items? Or am I'm just being a stick in the mud?

Viewpoints.com recently reviewed the KFC Double Down. Check it out at http://bit.ly/bMJAEw.
This is the most delicious sandwich I have ever had the pleasure of eating, and if that means I have to run an extra 30 min at the end of the day then so be it. There is nothing wrong with having the option to get the best tasting sandwich known to man, you just need to work out a little more after buying it.
plus to be honest 540 calories isnt that big, considering you are supposed to eat 2000 a day, so if your breakfest lunch and dinner comprised of this sandwich than you would still be 380 calories short
It doesn`t look that bad I`d kinda like to try it !!!!!!!!!=)
That looks awesome! That's going to be my treat when I finally get these last ten pounds off. Man, that looks good!!
