Oatmeal Toppings: Great Combinations for Spring

My oatmeal toppings change with the seasons. I know, I'm weird. I do the same thing with my drinks, too. And cereal. Geez, what's wrong with me?

Anyways, since it's now officially spring, I'm changing up my ingredients -- from warm, hearty cinnamon and ciders to light fruits and spices.


I try to keep at least some of the following toppings in my apartment at all times: That way I can have a different type of oatmeal every day of the week -- gotta love variety.

Fresh fruits:

  • Apples
  • Strawberries
  • Mango
  • Blueberries
  • Cherries
  • Bananas
  • Peaches


  • Yogurt
  • Raisins
  • Sweetened flaked coconut
  • Almonds
  • Vanilla
  • Applesauce
  • Jelly
  • Lemon zest
  • Brown sugar
  • Whipped cream

I like to be experimental with my oatmeal -- mixing and matching ingredients. One of my favorite springtime combinations is: peaches, mango, vanilla, yogurt, brown sugar, almonds, and coconut. Maybe a dash of whipped cream if I'm feeling naughty. It's like a tropical party in your mouth.

The worst combo I've made? Peanut butter, jelly, and marshmallow fluff. A friend of mine loves it, but I was not a fan. Way too many different textures going on. Blech.
