Usually packaged sauces give me the willies: I think boring, bland, and filled with preservatives. But the other day I was in the grocery store and these brightly-colored packages of prepared sauces, pestos, and tapenades by La Maison Le Grand caught my eye. I was on a budget that day so I vowed that next time I went back I'd try some -- if only for the pretty colors. And I did just that...
La Maison Le Grand Sauces ($6.99) by Brianne DiSylvester
I scoped up a few for my backup reserve when I don't have time to cook from scratch.
Let me tell you, I was wowed. It comes in a pouch with a resealable nozzle -- perfect for only taking what you need. They use the freshest, best ingredients without added sugar or preservatives, and they are all raw -- meaning the sauces aren't cooked above 118 degrees if at all (that locks in the nutrients). Plus, the flavor is amazing: It doesn't taste artificial in the least.
There are eight flavors: Garden Pesto, 4 Nuts and Cheese Pesto, Sun-dried Tomato Pesto, Mild Olive and Sun-dried Tomato Tapenade, Spicy Olive and Sun-dried Tomato Tapenade, Lemon Confit and Pumpkin Seed Sauce, Orange and Sunflower Seed Sauce, and Sesame and Pink Peppercorn Sauce.
My go-to recipes: Adding the garden pesto to eggs for green eggs and ham, topping the tapenade on crostinis with a slice of cheese, adding the orange and sunflower seed sauce to plain muffin mix. And of course, topping fish, chicken, and pasta with any and all. You can experiment by mixing and matching, too. Or check out the website for recipes.
I give it 4 outta 5 chef hats.
What do you think? Would you try these?
