Ditching Cable Is the Best Thing You'll Ever Do

I'd be a liar liar pants on fire if I said that I was calm, cool, and collected about cancelling my cable service: In fact, I was a nervous wreck thinking about how in the world I would fill up those long, empty hours that I had previously spent watching so much cable TV. But only thing that was more likely to give me a panic attack than the thought of having to live without cable was my $180 monthly cable bill (thanks Time Warner!). And so I had no choice but to tell it goodbye.

Now, four months later, I can honestly say that not only have I miraculously survived without cable, but it actually is one of the best life decisions I've ever made. Are you thinking about cutting the cord? You can do it, too! Here's how to make it work:

Watch an iPhone Get Slammed by a Hockey Stick -- and Survive! (VIDEO)

g form iphone caseWe've all been there: one second, your cellphone is safely resting in the palm of your hand, and the next it's toppling toward the ground because it "just slipped." Generally followed by a second of Oh my god PLEASE don't be broken panic, scenarios like this are exactly why protective cases are a must-have if you're going to splurge on an expensive cell. Well what if I told you there's an iPhone case that could protect the Appletastic device from breaking from the force of an 82-mph slapshot?

Yup, it's true! G-Form, the same company who dropped an iPad from space inside one of their cases (it survived without a crack!), has done it again with their new X-Protect iPhone case. For only $39.95, you TOO can feel safe knowing that if a random hockey player comes along and wants to take a swing at your cell, you have nothing to worry about.

OK, so that's obviously not going to happen. But man, this is a video you've got to see to believe. Take a look, here:

8 Ways Pinterest Can Change Your Life

Posted by Emily Abbate

Pinterest screen shotSurely by now you've heard of a little thing called Pinterest, right? It's an invite-only online pin board website that I can't get enough of. All you need to get started is someone you know with an account to "invite" you to join. Once you're in, the fun begins.

Here's how it works: You can "pin" things you find online -- for example, delectable recipes, awesome accessories, swoon-worthy home decor ideas, and even inspirational quotes -- and save them to your personal board. It's a visually appealing way to collect all the things you love online and store them in one place.

Apparently, the site's getting SO popular that it drove more referral traffic in January to websites than other popular destinations like YouTube, Reddit, and Google+.

Gee, Pinterest is THE thing to be doing, for sure! (The Stir and CafeMom both have pages -- you should check them out!) If you haven't started pinning yet, you're missing out. I mean it! The site can actually be life-changing. See for yourself ...

'Schweddy Balls' Star Ana Gasteyer Doesn't Deserve a Twitter Snub

Ana GasteyerFollowing comedians on Twitter literally helps me get through the day. It's so necessary to have a little comedic interlude to help relieve unneeded stress. Naturally, I couldn't help but chuckle when I noticed that one of my favorites, Suburgatory star Ana Gasteyer, started tweeting about her "personal quest for validation" on the popular social website. Seems that she asked Twitter to verify her account (in other words, put an official check mark on the top of her page to prove she's actually who she claims to be), and they have yet to do so.

Come on Twitter! Don't you know you're dealing with one of the women behind the famous Saturday Night Live "Schweddy Balls" skit?! You've verified so many less cool people (cough, Ke$ha, cough) and even some fakes, too!

Full 'Ferris Bueller' Super Bowl Ad Shows Broderick's Still Got It (VIDEO)

Life moves pretty fast ... if you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it. No worries on missing Honda's much-buzzed-about Ferris Bueller Super Bowl commercial, though, because you don't even have to wait until next weekend to see it. Happily, the full-length commercial has been released to the Internet, a full week before it goes prime time during the big game.

As for how the ad stacks up against the anticipation? Well, the bad news is that Charlie Sheen, Jennifer Grey, Alan Ruck, and Ed Rooney are all MIA from the clip—but the good news is that they aren't even missed. Honda has created a wonderfully clever homage to the original film, and the smartest part of all is that you'll want to watch it several times over just to get all the references.

Speaker John Boehner and Chad Ochocinco

Even if you're not a tweeter, you've got to admit, Twitter is a pretty cool concept. It gives millions and millions of people from all over the world a chance to directly connect instantaneously. Chad Ochocinco has a new "friend" this week thanks to a few of his recent posts. During the State of the Union on Tuesday night, the Patriots wide receiver tweeted:

"Anybody notice the guy over Obama's left shoulder doesn't seem happy and he's not smiling. He's not clapping with joy."

LOL. Am I the only one who thinks it's hilarious that Ochocinco didn't know he was staring at Speaker John Boehner? The man did have a point; Boehner wasn't exactly ecstatic during President Obama's address. Don't worry, though, the hilarity of this all doesn't stop here.

Read on to see what Boehner tweeted in response

Magmaflower YouTube videoCome one, come all -- do I have a treat for you. Well actually, this 14-year-old from New York has a treat. After missing a few days of school, YouTube user Magmaflower (handsome grin, seen right) wanted to send his girlfriend Briona a special video telling her how much he loved her and missed her.

Magmaflower (best username EVER) told a local radio station that he was going to email his girlfriend the video love note, but the file was too big -- so he decided to put it up on YouTube instead. Since he loves his girlfriend so much and doesn't care who knows it, he decided to keep the video public.

I will warn you now, I am not responsible if you pee your pants laughing. Thus I present you with "My Video for Briona":

Rachel Bilson's Rap Shows She’s More Gangsta Than Doctor (VIDEO)

Actors have to deal with public criticism all the time, and there are a number of tactics for doing so. You can obliviously defend the quality of your work, you can try and shift blame by undercutting the writers and producers (isn't that right, Kathering Heigl?), you can sheepishly try and pretend the role never happened. Or, if you're Rachel Bilson, you can release a hilarious self-deprecating rap video about your situation.

Thanks to FunnyOrDie.com, you can now watch Bilson channel her inner gangsta rapper—a persona that's nearly as believable as the physician she plays on Hart of Dixie—in order to brilliantly strike back at her critics. I wouldn't have called myself a fan of hers before, but I definitely am now.

7 Things You'll Miss Out on Because of the SOPA Blackout

Posted by Adriana Velez

sopa nopa minecraftYou've probably heard by now that websites the World Wide Web over are joining in the blackout in protest of SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act) and PIPA (Protect Intellectual Property Act, nothing to do with Pippa Middleton, unfortunately). Most alarmingly, Wikipedia has joined the protest -- so good luck winning that Ryan Gosling trivia contest today.

SOPA is a serious threat to thousands of organizations and website creators, not to mention millions of users. But here's what I'm worried about: SOPA could kill all the laughter and fun on the Internet. Do you want to see the LOLcats die? I don't. Here's some of the fun the SOPA protest blackout is depriving you of today.

The Wikipedia Blackout Will Actually Make Us Smarter

Posted by Emily Abbate

Wikipedia BlackoutIf you thought the blackouts across the East Coast were bad after Hurricane Irene, you ain't seen nothing yet. Starting at 12 a.m., the English Wikipedia and many other websites including Google began to protest SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act) and PIPA (PROTECT IP Act) for 24 hours. Yup, the great Wikipedia blackout is in full effect! Run for the hills! Or ... at least the REAL encyclopedia.

I know, it's weird to have to go without a service that so many of us are used to using all the time. While I'm against the notion that these bills could do a good job of regulating free speech on the Interwebs, I have a hunch that this blackout could actually be something good. In fact, I betcha that the Wikipedia blackout will actually make us SMARTER!

Walk with me on this one ...
