I have to confess something Twilight fans might not like: I've never been able to get into the series, and it's mostly because of Bella. I just found her kind of mopey. All that mooning over her vampire boyfriend, and then her werewolf sort-of boyfriend. And what's with Edward trying to control her -- even though he can't? She came across as a pretty wimpy female to me, but her creator, Stephenie Meyer, says she's all about girl power. It's the humans against the supernatural creatures! I guess I can see that.
But then The Hunger Games came along and just blew Bella's girl power out of the water. Here's a real feminist heroine: Katniss, a warrior fighting for her survival! No time for moping over boys, she has a family to support. But the more I think about it, Katniss actually has more in common with the supernatural women of Twilight. Maybe the Twilight chicks should get some credit for being pro-girl power after all.

Posters of the two rival Snow White movies are flying all over the Internet and in theaters right now, and one thing is pretty clear: There will be a Snow White movie out there for just about everyone. Love a darker fairy tale with adventure? Then Snow White and the Huntsman is for you. Like your fairy tales light and comic? You'll want to see Mirror Mirror.
It's been a little unclear how exactly they are turning What to Expect When You're Expecting, the "bible of American pregnancy," into a movie. However, when the A-list cast -- including Cameron Diaz, Jennifer Lopez, and Elizabeth Banks -- was announced, it was obvious they weren't making a movie version of the book's frightening -- yet enlightening -- depiction of how the pregnant female body's internal organs get squished to nothing while an upside-down child grows into that painful position. In fact, with actresses who can deliver the humor like Banks and Diaz can, I've been hoping for a good comedy. Pregnancy is so humiliating, and our humiliation can be quite hilarious when it's done in a smart, real, authentic way, and when the story is delivered by awesome actresses.
It's official: The heart does go on. The movie everyone saw at least five times in the theater back in 1997, Titanic, will be making its first big re-appearance on the big screen

These of course are all wonderful gifts -- and we all know it's the thought that counts -- but how about doing something different this year? How about watching a movie?
