The fatal shark attack in Florida has a lot of people re-thinking their summer plans.
If you haven't heard the news, 38-year-old Stephen Howard Schafer was kite surfing off of Stuart Beach, Florida yesterday when he was attacked by several sharks. He was rescued by a lifeguard and rushed to the hospital, where he later died.
This is super scary. I can't imagine enjoying a fun, carefree vacation and then it suddenly turning into a pure tragedy.
Maybe we should teach our kids to fight the shark like the 14-year-old New Zealand girl did.
Does this kind of news make you paranoid about taking your family to the beach? Do you even think to keep an eye out for sharks while your family plays in the ocean?

We go to the beach! We love the beach! We just don't swim in the ocean. We play where the waves break and swim in the hotel pool : )
lol I was a total ocean chick until I saw Jaws and moved to (go ahead and laugh) Florida..now I don't go in the water any deeper than my knees and even that scares me silly..lol
Considering how fatal shark attacks are extremely rare (and I mean extremely), no I'm not scared about getting attacked by a shark when I go swimming in the ocean. I've lived in SW FL almost my whole life (with 2 years in Orlando), so I've gone in the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic ocean many, many times. But, I've always had a fear of dark water, which has gotten increasingly bad in the past several years. I will swim as far out as I want when I'm in Bermuda with their crystal clear water, but here in SW FL or even when I go to Miami area, I'm either clinging on to my husband (literally) or not going past my knees! I haven't been able to swim in lakes or rivers since I was very young, though. I'm more scared of getting stung by a stingray or clamped on by a crab or something like that!
