Did you hear that Ellen DeGeneres is replacing Paula Abdul as the fourth judge on American Idol? I love her!
She will join Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson, and Kara DioGuardi when the ninth seaon of Idol begins in January. But, fans, rest assured: The Ellen DeGeneres Show will continue as well.
Now, I can watch Ellen during the day and at night!
What do you think of the choice? Will you be more likely to watch American Idol now that Ellen is a judge?

Are you serious?
I looove Ellen, but does she have any background in music?
Wow, at least it would be worth watching now. lol
I can not wrap my head around this , I like her talk show but what does she know about music.
Maybe I'm missing something, but what is Ellen's background in the music industry? Maybe she has one that I don't know about, but if not I wonder why they feel they need a fourth judge from a different entertainment sphere?
That's interesting. Not sure it makes a huge difference if she has a background in music. Having a bit of a different perspective is good. Plus she can dance to the ones she really likes.
I really dont think American Idol would be taken seriously anymore. she doesn seem like the kinda of cut throat person that you need to be to tell people they cant sing. thats just stupid to me. i like Ellen but i really dont think this job fits her.
Freela- she said she wants to come at it from the human standpoint.. she wants to be the one with no music agenda and just seeing them as WE will see them.. as the person who will be buying the CD. So she wont be saying " a bit pitchy dog" she will be saying "I would/wouldnt buy it.. heres why". I dont watch the show but maybe with Ellen on I will.
She talked about it on her show and said that even though she doesn't have a background in music, she can look at it from the average american viewers point of view. Just read LuminousMom's answer and I agree with her! She can let people know if their voice is something others would like to hear.
I am happy about it.
